4 out of 5 stars Perfect for outdoor activities.   March 15, 2010
TnaTheLLama (Southern California)
seemed to have trouble focusing in lower lighting areas with this camera. but other than that, the camera loads of fun!

The camera was built for rougher environments and does an exceptional job!!!

Took it snowboarding and caving (muddy cave) - using the AKT-DC1 Accessory kits shoulder strap. Which I'd definitely recommend!

I'd recommend this camera for any outdoor enthusiast!!!!

1 out of 5 stars leaked   March 14, 2010
none (FL)
picture quality was pretty good but leaked after second use, the disposable cameras take nearly as good picture quality and I have never had one leak. Hopefully cannon will take care of it under warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Great underwater Camera   March 11, 2010
N. Yazvenko
I borrowed this camera from a friend for my trip to Hawaii. It was easy to operate, and took great underwater pictures even when I forgot to turn on the underwater mode.

I think that it's weight is irrelevant, as with a strap it floats in water.

I liked it's shape, it was easy to hold.

It's battery lasted more than three hours of continuous picture taking without flash. Flash did deplete it fairly fast.

It survived several 2-3 feet drops.

It survived a 20 feet free dive in the water, which is impressive.

What amazed me about this camera is Canon's image stabilization. Even with waves' bobbing action and fishes moving rather quickly, most images managed to come out crisp and colorful. It also managed to focus on the moving fish, rather than the background most of the time. I also noticed that I got better pictures by getting very close to the object rather than zooming, because of inherent limitations of underwater photography.

I never experienced any leakage, but then every time I opened any of the seals I did it after rinsing the camera in fresh water, wiping it dry, and putting it in front of a fan for an hour to dry.

I'll have to buy it for myself.

4 out of 5 stars Great pictures, so-so videos   March 11, 2010
B. Turner (colorado)
I bought this for my very active husband for Christmas. He rides BMX, snowmobiles, snowboards, waterskis, rides horses...you name it. So far, he has only used it for snowmobile shots and shots of our kids (1 and 2 1/2) at home. The pictures are really pretty good. The camera only has a 3x zoom, but that seems pretty typical of the "hardier" cameras. That it's 12 megapixel seems to help compensate for the lower zoom rating. Our only complaint is that videos, while easy to take, tend to be grainy and not the highest quality in general...we can see what the rider is doing, etc., but it's hard to tell exactly who it is... This was definitely a good purchase, but I hope that Canon upgrades the video capabilities on it.

5 out of 5 stars Worked perfectly   March 8, 2010
Ian W. Ellis
I bought this camera for a snorkel trip to Virgin Islands. It worked perfectly. It was in and out of the water probably 15 times over a four day period. I'm guessing as deep as 20 feet. Took over 600 picks and seven videos. Very happy with the optics. I suggest that when you open a sealed door, open it so that gravity will pull water droplets away from the camera. Once I opened the battery door and there were a few water drops around the seal. I dried it off and when I closed the door, I was sure there was no debris on the seals. I would press the door firmly and then slide the lock closed. I could see by the door designs that it may be possible to not completely lock the doors.
